Weekend Getaways from Seoul: Tropical Escapes a Short Flight from Incheon

One of the best perks of living in Seoul is how close the tropics are. Leave the office on a Thursday or Friday, board an evening flight at Incheon, and you can be eating breakfast under palm trees the next morning. Most of my trips these days are exactly that: a long weekend somewhere warm, then back at my desk on Monday.

This page collects the tropical escapes within easy reach of Incheon that I’ve been to, the ones I’ve written up and a few I haven’t yet, sorted so you can pick by flight time and how many days you have.

The getaways I’ve written up

Ishigaki and Taketomi, Japan

Three hours on Jin Air and you’re over the reef. Kabira Bay, a sea turtle from a glass-bottom boat, Ishigaki beef and a day biking around Taketomi. The easiest tropical escape from Seoul.

Bohol (Panglao), Philippines

A Thursday-night flight, three nights on Alona Beach, island hopping to Balicasag and snorkeling with the fish at Napaling. My pick for a first tropical weekend.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Four days of street food, rooftop bars and the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. For a slower city visit, there’s also my older 48 hours in Kuala Lumpur.

Phu Quoc and Hoi An, Vietnam

Two very different Vietnam escapes: island beaches and sunsets on Phu Quoc, or lanterns, tailors and food in Hoi An, a short drive from Da Nang’s airport.

Singapore

Not a beach trip, but an easy long weekend of gardens, skyline views and hawker centers. I went back in 2025 for the Singapore Grand Prix, and the night race through the city is something else.

How to make a weekend getaway work from Seoul

  • Use the red days. A Korean public holiday on a Friday or Monday turns a weekend into three or four nights without touching your annual leave.
  • Fly out Thursday or Friday night. Evening departures from Incheon mean you wake up somewhere warm instead of losing a day in transit.
  • Book the first night even if you land after midnight. The room is yours the moment you arrive.
  • Check entry rules before you go. Some countries need an online arrival form, like the Philippines’ eTravel, within a set window before you land.
